Kauai Volunteer Week 2018

Participate in Kauai Volunteer Week 2018 and join us for a week of service across our island’s mokus. The focus of the week is to engage with your community, give back to your moku, and recognize the collective impact of service across the island.

Sunday, April 15th:

Puna – Malama Hule‘ia River Restoration

Work with Malama Hule‘ia, a non-profit organization dedicated to improving the Nawiliwili Bay Watershed by eliminating alien and highly invasive plant species. Volunteers will help to remove invasive mangrove.

Monday, April 16th:

Kona – Malama Waimea River Clean-Up

Join Kumano I Ke Ala for a Malama Waimea River Clean-Up to actively participate in the restoration of the Waimea River one bucket at a time by working alongside your community members to remove silt islands from the river. You can read more about the Malama Waimea River project and its efforts here. Meet at the Kiki a Ola Swinging Bridge, and bring a hat, sunscreen, and water. Parking in the area is limited so please carpool or park in town and walk to the site.

Tuesday, April 17th:

Napali – Invasive Species Removal at Koke‘e State Park

Work with Koke‘e Resource Conservation Program to preserve the native forest ecosystems by removing invasive weeds along the Pihea trail overlooking the Napali coast and Kalalau Valley. Meet at the pavilion in the Kanaloahuluhulu Meadow just past the Koke‘e Museum, then as a group we will drive to the Puu o Kila lookout and hike into the worksite. Work attire: long pants, long sleeve shirt, closed-toe shoes, and work gloves. Children 17 and younger will need adult supervision.

Wednesday, April 18th:

Ko‘olau – Surfrider Kauai Net Patrol and Beach Clean-Up

Help Surfrider remove nets from Kauai’s coastline at Kauapea (Secrets) Beach. Meet in the parking lot at Kauapea and walk down to the beach as a group.

Ni‘ihau – Ke Kula Ni‘ihau o Kekaha School Garden

Revitalize and spruce up the school garden space at this Ni‘ihau public charter school.

Work to maintain and expand our educational gardens and perform community farm revitalization projects.

Saturday, April 21st:

Puna – The Friends of Kamalani and Lydgate Park

Join us at the Main Pavilion in Lydgate Park for an Earth Day Community Work Day helping with a variety of fun park improvement projects. Celebratory end-of-week lunch will be served. Bring a water bottle, work gloves, sunscreen, and shoes.
